Monster Pies

Australia's answer to Beautiful Thing...perhaps, just a little too similar but with an almighty twist...

Monster Pies is definitely rough, ludicrously cheap and, in places, cringingly clumsy.There are also a few wobbly performances thrown in for good measure - all, as they say, in the name of independent filmmaking.

But, for what it lacks in professionalism...it certainly makes up for...in heart and soul.

This is filmmaking in the truest sense of the word - it seems as if Galea utilised everything and everyone at his disposal...which was not a lot...and managed to produce a tender story that oozes an intoxicating charm - thanks, primarily, to the two young leads, their chemistry alone is the making of the film.

With more screen time spent of them rather than the wobbly support, this could have gone through the roof...despite its infinitesimal budget.

That said...Monster Pies is nothing short of a rough-around-the-edges bitter/sweet delight.
